Improve your 2048 puzzle play with the corner strategy, empty-space management and deliberate merges.
Understand the board first
2048 merges equal-valued tiles, but every swipe moves an entire row or column. A tempting merge can trap a larger tile behind smaller numbers or remove a useful empty cell. Good play balances immediate score with mobility for the next several moves.
The corner approach
Keep your largest tile near a chosen corner and organise other large tiles alongside it. If you use the bottom-left corner, frequent upward moves may disrupt the arrangement. This is a heuristic, not a law: if a board is nearly blocked, make the move that restores space rather than protecting a rigid pattern.

Learn from failed moves
Chasing every small merge can scatter large tiles and reduce control. When the board fills, prioritise moves that release useful empty cells. Try a short practice round and note why you choose each direction. Slower, deliberate moves can reveal patterns that frantic swiping hides.
Practical checklist
- Try to keep the largest tile near one corner.
- Think about empty cells after every merge.
- Stay flexible when the board becomes cramped.
