Adjust watering, light and indoor conditions as days shorten, without overreacting to every yellow leaf.
Shorter days change the light
As daylight hours shrink, a plant may receive less light even in the same room. Before moving it closer to a window, learn whether it tolerates direct sun. Avoid pressing leaves against cold glass or placing pots immediately above heaters. Observe responses over time instead of moving plants repeatedly.
Water according to the plant, not the calendar
A weekly watering reminder cannot replace checking soil moisture, drainage and the plant’s species. Cooler conditions may reduce evaporation and increase the risk of overwatering. Do not leave pots standing in water for long periods. Match care to the plant rather than following a universal schedule.

Read yellow leaves in context
One ageing yellow leaf may be normal. Sudden widespread yellowing deserves a closer look at moisture, light, temperature and pests. Inspect under leaves and around the pot before adding fertiliser or treatment. A short care diary can reveal patterns more clearly than repeated guesswork.
Practical checklist
- Check soil moisture before watering.
- Avoid heaters and cold glass.
- Record changes in a simple plant-care log.
