Learn to check soil, light and pot drainage instead of following a rigid schedule.
Start with the soil, not the calendar
Water use depends on plant type, pot size, temperature and light. Put a clean finger into the soil or lift the pot to gauge moisture. Watering on the same weekday every time can create problems when the season changes.
Pay attention to drainage
A decorative outer pot may trap water even if the nursery container drains well. Empty standing water when appropriate and use a potting mix suited to the plant. Wilting alone is not proof of thirst: overwatering can cause similar symptoms.
Adjust for seasons and growth
Many indoor plants use less water when growth slows and daylight decreases. Newly repotted plants may respond differently. Record what works for each plant and seek species-specific care advice rather than treating all houseplants alike.
