A simple method for looking closely at art.
Choose fewer works
Rather than attempting to see every gallery, choose a handful of works that catch your attention. First observe them without reading the wall label. Notice composition, texture, scale and the relationship between figures and background.
Read context, then look again
A label can explain the artist, period and medium, but it does not dictate the only valid interpretation. After reading it, return to the work and notice what changed. Some exhibitions include additional accessibility or audio resources.
Respect the exhibition space
Check photography rules, distance markers and access conditions. Move aside when taking notes so others can look. A short visit with genuine attention is often more rewarding than a rushed checklist.
