Understand the Republic Day public-holiday dates in Türkiye, including the October 28 afternoon and the full holiday on October 29.
When does the holiday begin?
Under Türkiye’s national holiday framework, Republic Day begins at 1:00 p.m. on October 28 and continues throughout October 29. In 2026, those dates fall on Wednesday and Thursday. The national rule does not tell you whether every private service, appointment desk, or retail business will operate on the same hours.
Schools, banks and appointments
Check the latest notice from your school, bank, university or public office before travelling. An online form may remain accessible during a holiday, while its processing date shifts. For celebrations, rely on local government announcements for road access, public transport arrangements and event conditions.
Planning around a Thursday holiday
Because October 29 falls on Thursday, a Friday trip may involve taking leave on October 30. Treat leave approval as separate from the public holiday itself, especially when booking a longer break. Check cancellation terms and avoid assuming a four-day holiday has been announced unless an employer or competent authority explicitly confirms it.
Practical checklist
- Confirm appointments separately for the October 28 afternoon.
- Find celebration times and venues from official local sources.
- Do not assume October 30 is automatically a day off.
