Layer light for reading, relaxing and practical tasks.
Start with the tasks
A reading corner, desk and dining table may need different lighting. Instead of relying on a single bright fixture, combine general room illumination with targeted task lighting. Avoid glare directly in your line of sight.
Use surfaces and color deliberately
Lighter wall colors and reflective surfaces can distribute available light, but mirrors placed opposite harsh sources may increase glare. Check how the room looks in daylight and after dark before purchasing additional fixtures.
Consider electricity and safety
Use bulbs compatible with the fixture rating. Keep lamps away from water and combustible materials, and do not overload outlets. Complex electrical changes should be performed by qualified professionals.
